Abstract

Aspergillus niger has many important industrial applications. In the case of filamentous microorganisms, many relationships are known to exist between engineering variables like agitation, shear stress, oxygen transfer, medium properties like rheology and specific parameters of the fungi characterized by growth rate, morphology. In order to understand the optimizing conditions in cell growth using a bioreactor, a better comprehension of the characteristics of shear stress as an engineering variable during the fermentation of filamentous fungi is needed In this study, the effect of shear rate on growth and morphology of the fungal cultivations of Apergillus niger were studied The purpose of this study was to define the actual effect of shear rate on growth and morphology of Apergillus niger, taken as an example for filamentous fungi.
