Psychiatric utilization review and evaluation project (summary of progress report: July 1, 1969 - June 30, 1971)

Abstract

This is the two year interim report of a four year project whose aim is to develop a basic utilization review program for patient care evaluation in community mental health centers and other psychiatric facilities, and then test it in various settings. The work reported here includes: the development of an appropriate model of utilization review; the development of evaluation criteria to test the adequacy of care and mechanisms for case selection for review; testing of these criteria and mechanisms; implementation of the system in the Connecticut Mental Health Center; and the evaluation of certain aspects of program effectiveness in the catchmented service of the Connecticut Mental Health Center.
