Lithium prophylaxis of tricyclic-antidepressant-induced mania in bipolar patients

Abstract

The authors reviewed the charts of 30 bipolar patients taking lithium who were treated with tricyclic antidepressants; 12 experienced a switch from depression to hypomania or mania. The correlation between low serum lithium levels and switch to mania was statistically significant.
