Abstract

A case is reported of a 22-year-old man with heparininduced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis syndrome and a right atrial foreign body (Greenfield filter). Heparinless cardiopulmonary bypass for removal of the foreign body was conducted by pretreatment with ancrod, a rapid-acting antifibrinolytic of pit viper venom origin. Treatment protocol and a literature review are included in this article.
