Abstract
The relationship between amino acid substitution and charge change of proteins in the evolutionary process is studied by using a stochastic model. A mathematical formula is developed for the electrophoretic identity of proteins between two different taxa for a given number of average codon differences per protein locus. Using this formula, a reference figure is constructed for estimating the average number of codon differences per locus between taxa.
