Area of Expertise
Dr Karamichos research aims to discover, develop, and deliver novel therapies for the treatment of corneal trauma, diseases, and dystrophies. Dr Karamichos and team focus part of their work on Keratoconus disease where they are working on novel biomarkers and delineating the role of sex hormones during the onset and progression of the disease. Dr Karamichos is also investigating the role of sphingolipids in corneal wound healing, using complementary in vitro and in vivo models. Other areas of investigation are focused on diabetic keratopathy and the application of bioengineering for corneal transplantation.
