Area of Expertise
My laboratory investigates the mechanisms of glaucoma, with an emphasis on how neurons and glial cells interact during the process of degeneration. Our research has implicated metabolism in the pathogenesis of glaucoma, finding that transfer of energy substrate is compromised and mitochondria are dysfunctional prior to axon loss. These observations offer new targets for therapeutic development.
