Dr. Thaxton has devoted several years of her advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) career to research surrounding the specific needs of children and adults with life-limiting illnesses. She served as faculty with the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium since 2012, presenting workshops as the Lead Presenter/Coordinator on Introduction to Palliative Care, Pediatric Pain and Symptom Management, Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care. In collaboration with other ELNEC Faculty, Dr. Thaxton developed a curriculum for the APRN Primary Palliative Care role focused on pediatric oncology patients. Advocating for and informing the professional healthcare community on the role of the APRN in palliative and hospice care. Dr. Thaxton is exploring additional research on the role of depression, anxiety, and life-limiting symptom burden on underserved patient populations
