I have been a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in Internal Medicine-Geriatrics for 18 years. My practice consists of Long Term Care and follows approximately 100-125 patients a month in nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. I work with 4th-year medical students and geriatric fellows who round with me. I present didactic training to the 4th-year medical students. Additionally, I am a Clinical Research coordinator and lead coordinator for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical research in the geriatric division. I serve as the backup coordinator and sub- PI for cardiology studies.
As an active community member, I speak at Alzheimer's Association programs, guardianship services, Tarrant Area on Aging, and Texas Christian University Undergraduate Nursing Program. I serve as a member on various boards and committees including UNTHSC's IRB (for 12 years), the Texas Alzheimer's Disease State Plan Partnership committee, the Texas Alzheimer's Research Consortium, and the Association of Frontotemporal Lobe Dementias, putting together information for long- term care facilities on managing FTD patients and staff training.
