Personal profile

Area of Expertise

My research interests lie in ocular regenerative medicine. Stem cell therapies hold enormous promise for treatment of degenerative eye disorders.
One of my projects is using cellular reprogramming of patients’ skin cells to generate retinal stem cells and mature ocular cells—such as photoreceptors and retinal pigmented epithelial cells—to replace lost/damaged cells and tissues in the eye during disease progression, for which no treatments are yet available.
The other is to use generated ocular cells as tools for disease modeling and drug screening to help develop new therapeutic strategies to treat degenerative eye diseases.
